Day 157 (11/4/14): Tampa, FL | St. Augustine, FL

Saucy was over staying in hotels too! She was all packed up & ready to go to Hilton Head Island, SC! 🙂

Staying in hotels with the pups has officially gotten old. It’s time to push the pause button for our time in Florida and hunker down in Hilton Head Island, SC, as we continue waiting for our RV to be repaired. At this point, our home-on-wheels has already been in the shop for 9 days. But, between waiting for warranty authorization, parts, and installation, we’ll probably be without our trailer for at least a few more weeks.

We wish we could’ve spent more time at each of our stops in Florida. Nevertheless, we made sure we saw everything we had planned on. We just had to do our sightseeing as quickly and efficiently as possible to not miss anything.

On our way to Hilton Head Island, we wanted to stop at the RV dealership to check on the status of our RV and grab a few things out of it. With Tampa in our rear-view mirror, we headed back to St. Augustine. This will be our last night at a hotel (yippee!). We’ll visit the RV dealership first thing tomorrow before proceeding to Hilton Head.

Day 158 (11/5/14): St. Augustine, FL | Georgia | Hilton Head Island, SC

This morning, we visited the RV dealership to get an update on our trailer. They finally received the approval for the warranty work (it took 10 days just for the approval!). Now that the authorization for the work has been approved, they can order the parts. The Service Technicians showed us the damage under the trailer…yikes!

They were extremely nice and happy to explain what caused the water leak. Apparently, when our trailer was constructed, the pipes were ran through the liner outside of the undercarriage rather than being contained within the frame. The Techs said they had never seen pipes installed that way and had no idea why the manufacturer would run the pipes outside. Lucky us.

The pipes rubbed on the liner, causing friction, which eventually created a leak with the pipes. The leaking water damaged the insulation as well as the heat ducts. Everything has to be replaced! Who knows how long water had been leaking and filling the undercarriage! We were just fortunate there was no mold and the wood wasn’t ruined. The damage could have been much worse; at least it was repairable.

We grabbed what we needed from the trailer, reluctantly said goodbye to our portable abode again and continued on our way to our temporary home-away-from-home in Hilton Head Island, SC. We found a great vacation rental located on a gorgeous golf course!

And since it was their slow season, we were able to negotiate a discounted deal for a 3-week rental period! The average nightly rate for our extended stay was less than half of what we were paying each night for a hotel! Score! We celebrated by having delicious Greek food for dinner at Hilton Head’s It’s Greek to Me restaurant.
